Attention all Edinburgh & Lothians filmmakers! The 48 Hour Film Project and Screen Education Edinburgh are excited to announce our call for short films with a maximum runtime of 10 minutes. We are looking for creative and thought-provoking films that showcase your storytelling abilities in a concise and impactful way. Whether you are an emerging filmmaker or an experienced professional, we invite you to submit your best work to be considered for our upcoming Edinburgh Shorts Showcase at the Cameo Picturehouse on the 27th of April 2023. 

We welcome films from various genres, including drama, documentary, and animation. So, if you have a story to tell, we want to see it! Whether it's a personal narrative, a fictional tale, or a social commentary, we want to be captivated by your vision. Selected films will be showcased in a public screening event, providing a platform for your work to be seen by a wider audience. Don't miss this opportunity to share your voice and showcase your talent. If your film is chosen, you will be required to attend and participate in a Q&A afterwards. Guidelines for submissions:  

  1. No minimum length, but under 10 minutes   
  2. We welcome animation, documentary and drama submission 
  3. Films must be in English, if not they must be with English subtitles 
  4. Applicants must be over 16 years old   
  5. Films submitted must be the work of the creators or they must be licensed to use it (all content shall remain the property of the creator)  
  6. No limit to number of films that can be submitted  
  7. No music videos, advertisements or propaganda films will be accepted   
  8. If your film is chosen, you will be required to attend and participate in a Q&A afterwards. 

We believe that diverse perspectives are essential for a thriving and inclusive film culture, and we are committed to creating a platform that amplifies voices that have historically been marginalised. We therefore strongly encourage and welcome submissions from all individuals, regardless of their backgrounds and life experience, with a particular emphasis on filmmakers from underrepresented communities in the film industry. 

We will open submissions again later this year for screening events taking place on the 15th of June, 28th of September, and 30th of November 2023.
