What we do For Young people Young Filmmakers Groups Our weekly young filmmakers groups for young people in S1 to S6 in localities around the City of Edinburgh. Taking place during term time, the groups allow young people to explore a wide range of filmmaking roles, stages, skills and techniques. They have the opportunity to learn how to use camera and sound equipment, create and share stories, share opinions and think in terms of audio and visual stimuli. Participants gain experience and skills in making drama, documentary, animation and/or music videos. Watching and discussing films is an important component and we take this opportunity to introduce both feature length and short films, with a focus on films they may not have the opportunity to watch, such as films created by other young people, foreign language films, documentaries and artist films. Over the course of the sessions young people have opportunity to add in occasional masterclasses about a specific area of interest, including cinematography, sound design or editing skills. Completed films can be entered into youth film festivals including our Edinburgh & Lothians Schools Film Competition in partnership with Edinburgh International Film Festival and Arts and Creative Learning at City of Edinburgh Council.
