Screen Education Edinburgh is proud to be one of BFI's partner organisations to deliver the BFI Film Academy Specialist courses. These courses are designed to help young people acquire the skills and practical experience they need to pave their own path in the industry. As part of this programme, SEE is delivering the Craft Skills course through an intensive five-day residential. We are hosting twenty-five talented young people aged 16-19 as they embark on advanced training in film production.

The residential is in full swing, as our learners receive workshops on a wide range of craft skills. From cinematography and sound to screenwriting, directing and more, both the hands-on experience and new perspectives on potential pathways into the industry are invaluable.

We’ve been honoured to welcome industry professionals for masterclasses on the finer aspects of behind-the-scenes filmmaking, as well as to discuss their own journeys through filmmaking. We’d like to extend our gratitude to screenwriter Lesley Paterson (All Quiet on the Western Front), director Paul Sng (Tish, Poly Styrene: I Am a Cliché) and SFX makeup artist Stephen Murphy (Elvis, Bohemian Rhapsody) for sharing their experiences with us, and look forward to the industry guests still to come!

Drawing on everything they’ve learned, our aspiring young filmmakers have been working in groups to develop, shoot and edit short films. All of us at SEE can’t wait to see what they’ve created!
