On the 30th of November 2023, Screen Education Edinburgh was very proud to host a screening of our Screen Progression Programme learners' amazing short films! Held at the iconic Cameo Picturehouse, we welcomed a supportive audience of family, friends and industry guests to celebrate the hard work and talent of our filmmakers.

With the support of Course Leader Sean Young, our SPP learners have spent the last 7 months receiving high-quality training and practical experience in all aspects of filmmaking, while working towards an SQA National Progression Award in Film & Media. This culminated in each learner getting the chance to write, direct and edit their very own short film.

Prior to this course, some had never made a film before - to watch their moving, thought-provoking and stunningly well-crafted films was truly inspirational.

From comedy to drama, sci-fi to horror and more, the incredible diversity and talent of these emerging filmmakers clearly shone through. To shoot 11 films in 5 weekends would be an extraordinary undertaking for the most seasoned of filmmakers - but our SPP learners exceeded all expectations.

After an informative Q&A session with the filmmakers, the celebrations continued! It was a wonderful night affirming the transformative potential of the artform we all love.

We would like to thank Screen Scotland & the Children, Education & Justice Services Department at the City of Edinburgh Council for funding the Screen Progression Programme, as well as all the friends, family and industry guests who joined us at the screening.

And of course, thank you to all of our talented filmmakers - each of you have such bright futures ahead of you, and we can't wait to see where your filmmaking journeys take you!
