The Edinburgh Schools HETV Inspire Sessions are workshops designed to inspire Edinburgh’s young workforce to consider careers in High-End TV Drama production. Screen Education Edinburgh have partnered with Film Edinburgh (City of Edinburgh Council, Culture Service), HETV Skills Fund at ScreenSkills, and Arts & Creative Learning, (City of Edinburgh Council, Children, Education and Justice Services) to deliver this offer. These exciting sessions will take place from October 2023 – February 2024 across High Schools in Edinburgh.

Call for Industry Professionals

With sessions kicking off in October, we’re looking for industry professionals based in Edinburgh, working in various roles in High-End TV Drama, interested in delivering a short, paid workshop that would form part of a wider session.

These sessions include:

  • Short discussions on various roles and departments in High-End TV Drama
  • Insight into different roles from a range of experienced industry professionals
  • Learning about the exciting productions that industry professionals have worked on
  • Practical workshops run by industry professionals so pupils can get hands-on experience
  • Information on current opportunities and progression routes locally and beyond for pupils

We strongly encourage participation from industry professionals working in a diverse range of roles. From set design and art direction to carpentry and accountancy, we are looking to reflect the diverse range of opportunities that exist within the industry.

Call for Schools

The screen industry in Edinburgh has experienced significant growth, contributing £10 million to its annual value, which now stands at £23.8 million. However, there is a shortage of young talent entering the field: the UK screen industries need approximately 10,000 new entrants annually to sustain the current workforce.

The HETV Inspire Sessions aim to help address this shortage. Designed for S4-6 pupils, these workshops give them the opportunity to find out about the world of work offered by the television industry, how the sector is growing in Edinburgh and beyond, and pathways for progressing towards entry level roles.

The workshops are designed for pupils taking a variety of subjects, as opposed to exclusively Drama or Media Studies. Industry professionals working in a diverse range of roles will share their experiences, empowering pupils to consider the wide range of jobs available in High-End TV Drama that they may not have previously considered suited to their skillset.

We’re looking for schools interested in us delivering a session to sign up. If you feel this would benefit your students, or would like some more information about these workshops, please contact [email protected].
