What we do For Schools Edinburgh & Lothians Schools Film Competition Now in its 14th year of taking place, Edinburgh & Lothians Schools Film Competition 2022 is a partnership between Screen Education Edinburgh, Edinburgh International Film Festival and Arts & Creative Learning, Education & Children’s Services, City of Edinburgh Council. A celebration of short film made by local children and young people, it’s free to enter for all City of Edinburgh, East Lothian, West Lothian and Midlothian nursery, primary, secondary and special schools, the competition offers the opportunity for selected schools, and their pupils, to watch their work on the big screen as part of a special EIFF screening event and awards ceremony at Edinburgh Filmhouse in June 2022 (subject to Covid 19 guidance with virtual events taking place as an alternative if required). The unique aspect of this project is the core role of a panel of judges made up of young people studying at Edinburgh and Lothians schools, who work with SEE and EIFF to learn about short film watching, understanding and curation. The Youth Jury also select the films, decide upon, and present the awards in each category as part of two special EIFF events, one for nursery/primary schools, and one for secondary/special schools. Youth Jury Being part of the youth is a great opportunity to learn about film watching, judging, and curation. You will be part of a team of young people who will watch submissions from nurseries and schools across Edinburgh and the Lothians, you will shape the categories for each award, and decide on the nominees and winners. You will also present the two special EIFF screening and awards events in June. Young people aged 14 to 18 with a keen interest and passion for film are eligible to become one of our youth jury members. Manage Cookie Preferences
